Take an eye-opening tour of your bathroom cabinet with Skin Deep, the online cosmetics safety database created by Campaign for Safe Cosmetics partner Environmental Working Group. You can use it to research the products already in your home or find safer products for women, men and kids before you go to the store.
This searchable database matches the ingredients in more than 60,000 shampoos, makeup, deodorants, sunscreens and other personal care products with 50 toxicity and regulatory databases. That makes for the most safety information anywhere about the products you put on your body.
The Skin Deep advanced search also allows consumers to find products free of carcinogens, fragrance or contaminants. Manufacturers can construct individual safety assessments rating all their product ingredients at once, aiding in reformulation plans.
Environmental Working Group designed this service to help fill safety gaps left by the unregulated cosmetics industry, which has publicly assessed only 11 percent of the 10,500 ingredients in personal care products.
